The Auxiliary Police Unit
The LaGrange Police
Department Auxiliary is responsible
for multiple activities within the
agency. Among the duties required
are security details consisting of
basketball games, football games,
Lions Festival activities, traffic
direction, and other details which
require police presence. Some
security details are paid an hourly
rate. Auxiliary Officers also take
place in the vehicle ride along
program where they assist road
officers with everything from
traffic stops to criminal arrests.
The LaGrange Police Department
Bike Patrol also utilizes
auxiliaries as a means of community
policing, and basic law enforcement
during seasonal months. Upon
appointment an auxiliary will under
go basic police training ranging
from the use of Buckeye
Codes/Signals, use of short wave
radio, basic police tactics on
both traffic stops and response to
formal complaints, to state
certification on the use of batons
and OC chemical sprays. The Officer
will also have opportunities to take
part in firearm training. The
LaGrange Police Department utilizes
The Lorain County Joint Vocational
School fire arm range. Range
training takes place once a month
during seasonal weather and consists
of practical exercises firing
Sig/Sauer .45 caliber semi-automatic
handguns, Benelli 12 gauge
semi-automatic shot gun and the
newly acquired Remington .308
semi-automatic patrol rifles.
Individuals hired by the auxiliary
unit will be supplied with some
equipment, however some items will
need to be purchased separately. If
you are interested in starting a
career in law enforcement The
LaGrange Police Department is
currently accepting applications for
part time officer, special officer,
and auxiliary police. A

available on this web site.
Auxiliary Officers are required to
work 16 hours a month. All
candidates must be at least 18 years
of age, possess a valid Ohio
operator license, and be able to
pass a background investigation.
